Wenger - Denilson will fight for his chance
Denilson’s time will come, according to Arsène Wenger.
The Brazilian was arguably the ‘find’ of last season’s Carling Cup run. Certainly he was the only player who was unknown before the tournament yet made a significant contribution in the Premiership after Arsenal lost the Final to Chelsea.
The emergence of Mathieu Flamini alongside the always excellent Cesc Fabregas has not only affected Gilberto this term. Perhaps it has knocked the 19-year-old down the Emirates Stadium picking order. But, on the eve of tonight’s Carling Cup visit to Sheffield United, his manager argued the former Sao Paulo player has ample time on his side.
“Yes Denilson has been overlooked,” said Wenger. “But he is a fighter and he will appear during the season. He had some great performances last season and I personally believe that he has made steps forward.
“Now he must keep his head up and not feel sorry for himself. He is still the youngest player here and he already has experience. At the moment he gets fewer chances but that will change for him.” |
