But one group of Indian fishermen stumbled upon something far more valuable in a nearby swamp after reeling in wads of cash instead.

It is not known how the money came to  be in  the water and police are trying to trace the source of the money  to find out if  the notes were genuine.

City Senior Superintendent of Police, Apurba  Jibon Baruah said: 'The investigation is likely to take some time.

'However, we are positive that we will be  able to crack it. We will take samples  of the currency notes to the Reserve  Bank to ascertain if the notes are  genuine.
