Sept 20, 1998 - Anwar leads tens of thousands of supporters aroundKuala Lumpur, calling on Dr Mahathir to step down. Protesters convergeon Dr Mahathir's residence where riot police fire tear gas and watercannon. Police arrest Anwar at his home.
