Arsenal Football Club marked the launch of the Arsenal Opus on Thursday. An epic anthology detailing the north London club’s history in exclusive images and insightful editorial content, the Opus measures half a metre square, weighs over 37 kilograms and features 850 pages full of pictures and literary pieces.
The Opus, which took over two years to produce, holds more than 400,000 words contributed by leading sports writers, focusing on club legends including Bob Wilson, Patrick Vieira and Ian Wright among others. No other book has traced the Club’s recent evolution from its home of 93 years at Highbury to its state-of-the-art Emirates Stadium in such detail, offering insights to the characters that have helped shape Arsenal’s future.
Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, said: "Arsenal has such a rich history, and it’s wonderfully illustrated in the Opus. The selection of images shows the true spirit and heart of the Club, not simply on the pitch but of our supporters and the people that have helped make Arsenal what it is today and what it has the potential to be in years to come. I’m sure it will prove hugely popular with anyone that loves this great club and the game in general.”
Karl Fowler, Founder of Kraken Sport and Media Limited, said: "Arsenal is undoubtedly a club steeped in rich history and tradition and it was a fantastic honour to partner them and produce an Opus for one of the world’s most famous clubs. It is a must read for not only Arsenal fans but also collectors of art and indeed corporates around the world as a cherished part of any unique collection. It is an extraordinary tome that has to be seen to be believed."
The Arsenal Opus contains over 2,000 of the most iconic and memorable moments in the Club’s history, commissioned from some of the world’s tops sports photographers including Rob Wilson, son of Arsenal legend Bob Wilson, and Jan Hnizdo, owner and operator of the world’s largest Polaroid camera.
Wenger, Wilson and Fowler held a press conference at Emirates Stadium on Thursday to mark the launch of the Arsenal Opus. Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood and a host of names from the showbiz world attended an event in the Diamond Club which featured speeches from Wenger and Wilson.
