British driver Tom Chilton has taken his first career victory in the FIA World Touring Car Championship at Sonoma Raceway, fending off the Honda of Tiago Monteiro to win by two seconds with team-mate Yvan Muller third.

ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Coronel had made a great start and was up to eighth from 11th on the grid in the BMW 320 TC, and became involved in a race long battle with Rob Huff’s Münnich Motorsport SEAT, eventually passing him at Turn 7 on lap ten and finished as the top placed BMW driver.

Yvan Muller’s lead in the championship is now 151 points over Michel Nykjaer, who drove from 22nd on the grid to 13th but still outside of the points following his penalty for the technical infringement in qualifying.
