Makelele backing Vieira's fitness
France midfielder Patrick Vieira's thigh injury is improving all the time, according to team-mate Claude Makelele.
The Internazionale man still has three days to decide whether he will be fit to play any part in Les Bleus' Euro 2008 campaign, having already been ruled out of the opening Group C game against Romania on Monday.
Vieira participated in his first training session of the week on Thursday and Makelele, who would likely partner Vieira in midfield should he be available, says his compatriot is progressing well.
"He trained yesterday because he's feeling better and better," the Chelsea player told a press conference on Friday.
"Now he has to minimise the risks he takes and make a decision. He has three days in which to do so."
Makelele refuted claims that Vieira's exit would have a negative effect on the atmosphere in the France camp, but admitted his absence would be noticed on the pitch.
"It wouldn't change anything (in the camp), it's on the pitch where there would be a difference," he added.
"But nothing is done. Patrick hasn't gone just yet."
Mathieu Flamini has been called up to Raymond Domenech's 23-man squad in case Vieira cannot prove his fitness in time. |
