Chelsea set for Mutu windfall
Adrian Mutu has been ordered to pay Chelsea €12 million (£9.6 million) to recompense revenues they lost following his sacking for drug use in 2004.
Mutu, who is currently preparing for Romania’s Euro 2008 campaign, made a blistering start to his Stamford Bridge career, but soon found himself in hot water after testing positive for cocaine.
The Blues had asked for €16m (£12.8m) in compensation, a request based on the transfer valuation of the player.
Fifa are yet to confirm the sanction and Mutu’s lawyer, Cristian Sarbu, insists that the wheels are already in motion to lodge an appeal.
"People should understand that this is a decision taken by a sporting tribunal," Sarbu said.
"After this is final, this decision can be taken to a civil court." |
