The producer has already found success with the AMC drama The Walking Dead, and the period drama Port Royal is already on the way, but Gale Anne Hurd has lined up yet another TV endeavor. A press release from New Franchise Media Inc. has announced development of a TV series adaptation of British author Jeffrey Archer’s novel The Eleventh Commandment. The novel follows the most deadly CIA assassin Connor Fitzgerald, a man who keeps the details of his dangerous career from his own family. However, as luck would have it, with only a few days to go before retirement, the Director of the CIA is suddenly helbent on making Connor the fall guy for a phony assassination on a Russian presidential candidate that could inadvertently trigger World War III. The title of the series comes from just one of the books, but there’s a whole series of novels featuring Fitzgerald, so there’s plenty of source material for a TV series. You can find both a synopsis of The Eleventh Commandment and the full press release after the jump.
At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, I was able to land an exclusive interview with Yvonne Strahovski for her new action-thriller Killer Elite.  Starring Clive Owen, Robert De Niro, Jason Statham and Strahovski, the flick centers on a retired special ops agent (Statham) who is tasked with rescuing his mentor (De Niro).  I caught the film at TIFF and if you’re a fan Statham and the rest of the cast, it’s definitely worth seeing.

Netflix has faced a revolt ever since splitting its DVD-by-Mail Serve and Video Streaming Service into two separate price plans.  I argued at the time that this split was necessary to keep the company competitive and that people were free to leave if they felt priced out of the service.  Now I feel like I’m being punished for sticking around.

On the official Netflix blog, co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings apologized for the way the announcement of the new pricing-plan was made, and further tried to explain why Netflix had adopted the new pricing scheme. He then revealed that the company will spinning off its DVD-by-Mail service onto a new site, Qwikster.com.  Hit the jump for more details and why this new development won’t win anyone back and only irk those who stayed.

I’m way behind on my Fringe, but the promo material for season four makes a strong case for why I should catch up.  We posted the first four teasers in the “Where is Peter Bishop?” series last month.  Yesterday, Fox released the final entry—this time a full trailer.  The network still isn’t quite ready to answer that question, since Joshua Jackson appears only in brief flashes.  But the season premieres next Friday, September 23, so hopefully the devout among you won’t have to wait too long to find out.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

A few weeks ago, I got to visit the set of one of the best shows on television: NBC’s Community.  As I said when I posted a bunch of behind the scenes photos from the set, I learned a lot about the upcoming third season and it all sounds great.  Since I know most of you don’t want to be spoiled, I’ll just leave you with a hint of what’s to come.  While last season was about Pierce (Chevy Chase) being the antagonist of the group, the third season is about outside antagonists…

With the craziness that is the Toronto International Film Festival winding down this weekend, things around Collider are slowly shifting back into normalcy (whatever that means). Although I’ll talk more about TIFF after the jump, I’d like to take this space to give Steve, Matt and Phil a big “thumbs up” for a job well done in covering the event. Especially our own Mr. Goldberg who, by my last count, has turned in an impressive 33 film reviews over the last nine days. Kudos, gentlemen. Now, enough with the backpatting…
In this week’s installment, you’ll find our recap of the Raiders of the Lost Ark Los Angeles screening with Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford, the first look at Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, interviews with Drive‘s Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn, an exclusive with Megan Fox where she discusses (among other things) whether or not she has seen Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and all of our TIFF 2011 coverage in one place. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.
