It was first called Zhonggiu Jie (literally "Mid Autumn festival") in the Zhou Dynasty". In M'sia, Singapore and the Philippines, it is also sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival.

W& O9 p9 f2 s8 N: W# G5.39.217.76The Autumn Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is a popular celebration of abundance and togetherness dating back to china's Song Dynasty over 1000 years ago. It traditionally falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, a date that parallels the Autumn Equinox of the Western calendar. At this time, the moon is at its fullest and brightest, marking an ideal time to celebrate the abundance of the summer's harvest, and reminding many of the lore of the mythical Moon Goddess, Chang O and her rabbit.5.39.217.76# {0 t# g Y! Legend lies in the history of the 14th century revolution that was led by Yuan Zhang. It is said that during the revolution, he used to smuggle notes inside moon cakes and used lighted lanterns, which was a signal to spark off the revolt.
