A final-year Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) student has been detained by the police after he allegedly made a threat against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on his Facebook page.

+ x3 ^1 u( J( K) z; U2 B0 \) gPolice picked up the 24-year-old at the USM’s engineering campus in Nibong Tebal on the mainland about 1.30pm today. He was then taken to the Northeast district police headquarters where his statement was recorded. The student allegedly said he would put a bomb in the helicopter that would fly the prime minister for a visit to the campus next week. Najib is expected to arrive in Penang on Jan 24 - the second day of Chinese New Year - to join in the celebrations.Northeast district police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said the youth was picked up after a report was lodged against him at the Jelutong police station. The case is being investigated under criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum seven year prison sentence and fine. The threat against the Prime Minister was reproduced in a blog which provided a screen-capture of the youth’s Facebook page.
