+ S/ ~3 _% T! h% z/ D/ w台灣總統馬英九跟夫人昨出席了方濟的就職典禮，兩人被安排坐在第一排中間位置，身旁的分別是哥斯達黎加及智利總統。馬英九曾在典禮開始時，與多國元首及政要交談，又與教宗握手，為台灣總統首次與教宗會面。2005年陳水扁搞葬禮外交，出席教宗若望保祿二世喪禮，曾令北京大為憤怒。隨着近年兩岸關係緩和，今回中國反應也較溫和。中國駐羅馬大使館發言人稱，今次中國沒派代表團，但中國有向新教宗道賀。外交部發言人則稱，希望梵蒂岡能採取切實行動改善與中國的關係，逐漸消除障礙。

The reason why the Vatican has no diplomatic relationship with China is not because of the argument of appointment of bishop in China. Actually, if both Vatican and China agree, they can follow the Vietnam's approach. The Vietnamese church will select a bishop and then approved by the pope. I read some diplomatic books and the real reason is that China asks Vatican to stop the diplomatic relationship with Taiwan and must follow the One China Policy. But the church does not want to involve in  politics, so there is still no diplomatic relationship between China and the Vatican.
