To create a new look to their town the Town of Russell put several initiatives into play. One of them was the unique idea of installing eight sets of wooden arches over the town's main street - the Russell Arches. The wooden arches were originally part of the supporting structure of an arena in Dauphin and were rescued as the old arena was being demolished. They were just a few days away from being scrapped in the local landfill. As crews worked to disassemble the structure for transport, a Dauphin resident discovered documentation that showed where 32 ply nailed wooden laminate arches were originally made - by a former Russell business, the Glu-Rite Rafters Company, owned by Carl Mantie.
