The US attempts to solve the Afghan problem through political mean instead of relying solely on military might. There would be talks between different factions, including the Taliban. No matter how unwilling the Karzai's regime in engaging the Taliban, it becomes clear its influence cannot be ignored if lasting peace were desired. Hillary Clinton put pressure on Pakistan recently, especially the ISI to stop helping the terrorist organizations. Pakistan played a pivotal role in sustaining the Taliban and Al Qaeda with unrelenting effort. Removing Pakistan influence would allow a more stable environment for the negotiations to take place. The US shifts its role to become a power broker.
