Obama had relieved McChrystal of command. This episode would not change the policy of the US as it is basically written by the general himself. His "counterinsurgency" approach aims at minimize the civilian casualties that previously be considered as "acceptable" collateral damage. This would please the Karzai's government, boost his popularity but it hampered the military power, frequently vented by the frustrated frontline troops.  This inherent conflict underscores the impossibility to win this war.
