Spot on, it is a very very slow growing plant, and it grows in native forest and national park.  Some people dig it up and try to grow it in their garden, that ends up killing it.  Its also illegal to collect.5.39.217.764 r4 c# L; v  J; e/ O% R  x

I google that's the one I can matched up.  The tree with a face looks like a boa tree?  Because gum tree is greyish so no match.

That's a very tricky one, I put it there just for fun.  It is actually an old gum tree that died.  In most of the botanical garden here, there is a resident artist, they made  sculptures using dead trees, and this one was sealed and varnished.

The Protea and the Kniphofia are very common in New Zealand.
