The Calcio world is in mourning after Sampdoria and Treviso midfielder Gionata Mingozzi was tragically killed in a car crash this morning.
The 23-year-old, who is co-owned by Samp and Treviso, was on his way to a medical ahead of the beginning of pre season training when he was involved in a head-on collision between his Porsche and a lorry near Venice. The tragedy occurred at around 8am.
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we will mourn with his family, friends and all who have had the privilege of knowing him during his tragically short life,” a statement on Treviso’s club website reads.
Mingozzi began his career with Ravenna in 2001 before joining Perugia in 2004. A year later he was snapped up by Sampdoria, where he made his Serie A debut.
He spent the 2006/07 season on loan at Lecce, before Treviso bought 50 per cent of his contract last summer.
