故事背景以初期的高麗為主，講述被貼著詛咒標籤而努力求生的倒霉高麗王子，偶然遇上了渤海國的公主，在一夜結婚的姻緣之後，展開了二人淒美的愛情羅曼史。故事圍繞著男主角在建國初的混沌時期以及王室內的權力鬥爭；而女主角拋開了傳統古裝劇中常見的被動型女性特徵，主動開創自己的命運，作為古代商團－青海商團的實際運營者，展現出有智有謀的渤海女性形象。
