Lakers center Andrew Bynum, hisJanuary knee injury still preventing him from returning to the court,will seek a second medical opinion, the Lakers said today. He will seeDr. Steven Gecha on Wednesday in Princeton, N.J.
While it had been expected thatBynum, 20, would not be back for this postseason, this decision wouldappear to not only cement that scenario but it also creates concernthat Bynum's recovery could extend into the summer or beyond.
Bynum injured his left knee on Jan.13, suffering a bone bruise and briefly dislocated kneecap. The healingprocess has been overseen by Lakers doctors and New York kneespecialist David Altchek.
Bynum has yet to engage in a fullpractice. It is still difficult for him to put the full weight of his7-foot, 285-pound frame on both legs and one-on-one drills have causedswelling in the injured knee.
He has one year left on hiscontract, after which he'll be a restricted free agent. The Lakers thissummer could offer Bynum a five-year extension for up to $80 million ontop of the remaining year of his contract.
If his upcoming exam reveals new complications, however, that extension could be put on hold.

Guard Derek Fisher has spent a dozenseasons in the NBA, only one of them with the Utah Jazz. Fisher was aLaker for eight seasons and a member of the Golden State Warriors fortwo years before signing with the Jazz last season. He returned to theLakers for a ninth season in 2007-08.
Yet, Fisher said, "I feel as close to [the Jazz] as I do to any group of guys I've played with in terms of really knowing them."

When Shaq[O'Neal] went to his house or Rick Fox went to his house or I went tomy house, nobody ever came out, especially with the traffic.
"With the Jazz, we knew each other's wives and kids. We went over toeach other's houses for dinner. We all grew close because it was a goodenvironment for that."
