「妓生」是朝鮮古代專為國王和文班、武班等貴族表演歌舞的藝妓。時至今日，韓國仍然有舞蹈家為生存而當「妓生」。
丹絲蘭（林成香飾）是在藝術學院學古典舞的，為了幫補家計，偶而會到有錢人家跳舞。一個突如其來的機會，她的舞姿把亞多模（成勳飾）深深迷住了；同時，丹絲蘭被韓國唯一的的妓女館「芙蓉閣」邀請，開始在那兒教古典舞。
丹絲蘭就這樣展開妓生的生涯，並認識到一班同樣在這個傳統行業謀生的伙伴，彼此交織著愛恨悲歡。
