Harry Kewell is putting in extra hours on the Melwood training field in order to boost his match fitness and earn a recall to the first team.
The Australian international is doing extra training with Gary Ablett's reserve squad and scored for the second string during the 2-0 win over Manchester United in midweek.
The number seven is eager to work hard and prove to Rafael Benitez that he could still have a major part to play this season.
Kewell has not featured in the first team squad since the FA Cup defeat by Barnsley and Benitez revealed that the Reds number seven is working hard to get his sharpness back.
"It is true that Harry came to see me and that it was his idea to do extra training with the reserves to build up his fitness," said Benitez.
"He has a professional mentality and his approach is very positive. He must carry on working hard and making sure he is ready for any opportunity, but I have no problem with him at all."
