The Bern agglomeration, which includes 43 municipalities, has a population of 356,000. The metropolitan area had a population of 660,000 in 2000. Bern is also the capital of the Canton of Bern, the second most populous of Switzerland's cantons.

瑞士的首都，十一世纪时有熊出没，故定名为伯尔尼。古老建筑物有熊的雕塑，日用品往往以熊作商标。居然在照片中没有看到熊的雕像
