索科特拉島 (阿拉伯語：سقطرى；Socotra；Suquṭra；Soqotra) 是西印度洋西北部的一群島，位於阿拉伯海與亞丁灣的交界處是由4座小島組合而成，屬於也門哈達拉毛省領土。Socotra (Arabic: سُقُطْرَى‎；Suquṭra；Soqotra) is a small archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean. It lies in the north-western corner of the Western Indian Ocean, at the junction between the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea, belong to part of the Republic of Yemen.% u; V& T! I. Q+ u( ^

Dazzling white sand dunes stretch for miles in places along Socotra’s southern coastline, here at Aomak beach. Extremely high winds during the monsoon season constantly reshape the dunes.

Socotra has been tectonically isolated from Africa and Arabia for the past 18 million years, with its fierce heat and drought have combined to create a unique and spectacular endemic flora. Huge number of flora and fauna on Socotra are endemic, i.e., they are found nowhere else on Earth: 37% of Socotra’s 825 plant species, 90% of its reptile species and 95% of its land snail species. The island was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world natural heritage site in July 2008.

One of the most striking of Socotra’s plants is the dragon’s blood tree (Dracaena Cinnabari), which is a strange-looking, UFO-shaped tree. The tree is so named because any possible injury to the bark results in a deep red liquid that excretes from the scar.

The tree can live to 5000 or 6000 years old. Its red sap was thought to be the dragon’s blood of the ancients, sought after as a medicine and a dye, also inscribe as magical seals and talismans. Some scientists blame a lack of water caused by a decrease in seasonal cloud cover—and predict that many stands could disappear within a century.5.39.217.760 E! R, y" u: ]$ E4 ~0 q0 n& v
在懸崖上的沙漠玫瑰 (Adenium Obesum) 也相當特別，直接嵌進石頭長出來，完全不需要土壤；樹皮則像橡膠一樣閃閃發亮，枝幹頂端還會長出漂亮的粉紅色花朵。
Another famous plant species is Desert Rose (Adenium Obesum) which blooming in spring with a flush of pink flowers, they apparently do not require soil, always magically growing from cliffs and rock-faces, sinking their roots straight into bare rock.

索科特拉島,印度洋西部一群島，屬也門哈達拉毛省領土。其位置在阿拉伯半島以南約350公里，非洲之角以東，阿拉伯海與亞丁灣的交接處。該群島由4島組成，群島面積3650平方公里，主島面積3635平方公里。2008年，聯合國教科文組織將該地列入世界遺產名錄，登錄名稱為索科特拉群島。
島上人口以阿拉伯人為主，說索科特拉語，主要城鎮Hadiboh人口約43000人，有機場。棗椰、煙草、畜牧業和漁業是島上經濟支柱。5.39.217.76! P- O4 z4 w; {; @
根據島上的記載，早在公元52年，島民就已經在聖多馬的指引下皈依基督教。1507年，葡萄牙人來到島上，幫助島民擺脫了阿拉伯半島上伊斯蘭教國家的控制，但是4年以後葡萄牙人離開該島，使得島民又重新淪為Mahra蘇丹的臣民。1886年，同Mahra蘇丹國一道歸入英國保護，成為英國在印度洋上的重要基地。
1967年，索科特拉島隨南也門獨立。目前，該島是也門的領土。

龍血樹號稱是地球上最長壽的樹種之一，最高齡可達6千歲，主要生長在非洲和亞洲南部等熱帶地區；其外型如同漏斗一般，可以有效接住每一滴雨水，而枝幹則像是渠道，將雨水導入樹根，因此即使在乾旱無雨的索科特拉島，它也能夠完全適應。tvb now,tvbnow,bttvb+ j/ q" Y% C3 p& M5 U/ Q. k
一旦劃開龍血樹的樹皮，便會有鮮紅色的汁液汩汩流出，當地人將這些「龍血」製成染料，或作為治療呼吸道及腸胃問題的藥物；也有巫師會配合儀式和煉金術，用來提升自己的法力。
龍血在中國則被稱為「血竭」，又名「麒麟竭」，是專治跌打損傷的活血聖藥。
