For my personal exprience, Lion does run faster than Snow Leopard. The next version of Mac OS X will be called Mountain Lion not Mountain Bear. There is not much of difference between Mountain Lion and Lion. Mountain Lion only offers some improvements on a few built-in applications. Still have some bugs in Lion, but for price $29.99. It is worth to have a try. Then upgrade to Mountain Lion with $19.99 (just known from WWDC).
But, now you just wait for one more month, saving of 29.99 is better
