Bradley Beach Police Chief Leonard A. Guida explained that police and fire officials arrived at the three storey La Reine Avenue home because of the fire alarm call, but instead found the house covered with dead cats.& i6 G0 S. C) b5 _  @* N

Neighbours were not surprised that the house had harboured such a chaotic situation.

美國一名65歲的退休教師疑似因為不慎照顧36隻小貓，未給貓咪們適當的生存空間，導致貓群互相殘殺，全都死在家中，屍體臭味甚至還臭到驚動住宅內的瓦斯警報器，引發消防人員前往。

外媒報導，退休教師史密斯(Lorraine R. Smith)的家27日凌晨瓦斯警報器大響，消防人員原以為是發生火災，沒想到卻冒出一大堆的貓屍體，才發現是屍體臭味導致鈴聲大作。

一名消防員表示：「當時現場一面混亂，地上都是貓咪的屍體，有的甚至已變成遺骨。」警方認為，史密斯是因為沒有能力養這麼多隻貓，又放任貓隻隨意生活，才會導致這樣的事情發生。

當地動保人員也表示，水、食物是最基本的生活條件，但這群貓咪們卻沒有足夠的生存空間，才會自相殘殺。而史密斯目前被依違反動物保育法遭到逮捕。
