曾經參與設計北京奧運體育館〝鳥巢〞的艾未未，目前在北京的家中遭當局嚴密監控。日本《讀賣新聞》3月5號報導，艾未未在接受采訪時透露，他在奧運會進行期間就明白了，中共只是把體育館和奧運〝作為自我歌功頌德的舞臺〞。他發現，自己被政府用來散播愛國教育，因此醒悟過來，奧運之後，他沒看過鳥巢。艾未未在采訪中指控當局〝道德淪喪〞，已進入了〝絕望的階段〞。

艾未未壹直是中共當局認可的藝術家。但08年汶川大地震後，艾未未到災區現場，意識到〝豆腐渣〞建築物是奪去眾多孩子性命的罪魁禍首，他不顧當局強大的阻力開始調查，在地震壹周年的日子，他公布了5 385名地震中遇難孩子的名單。- i( V4 u7 W! B0 J

記錄片《艾未未：永不認錯》(Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry)，1月25號在美國猶他州〝聖丹斯電影節〞上舉行了首映，並於28號在〝世界記錄片〞競賽環節中贏得了評委特別獎。
