他表示，中國大陸政府〝在追求沒有言論與思想自由、片面的實用主義，目前正處於道德破產的絕望狀態。〞
艾未未母親高瑛：〝鳥巢開幕式，他沒有參加，他肯定有意見，有想法。他既然這麽說了，那就是他的想法。〞  l5 h! p+ |: B9 m9 h' a3 ?7 G
政論家伍凡：〝艾未未被打了，他就深入的去思考：共產黨不僅是對他這樣，對更多的人也是如此，對整個中華民族、對所有的老百姓以及他內部的高官、基層官員都是如此，它只顧眼前利益，我要用呢時就用妳，不用妳就把妳當垃圾，當妳狗屎堆把妳扔掉。〞
艾未未告訴《讀賣新聞》：〝獨裁體制最大的罪惡是泯滅人類的情感。〞他說：〝因為我童年經歷過各種苦難，而且有許多人支持我，所以能承受這種處境。然而，我懷疑壹般人能否維持正常心態。〞
伍凡指出，中共的所作所為使艾未未清醒了：無論妳為中共做了多少，只要它對妳不滿意，就要把妳至於死地。過去很多從國外回來想幫中共的知識份子，最後被打成右派、折磨死，就是例證。
艾未未壹直是中共當局認可的藝術家。但08年汶川大地震後，艾未未到災區現場，意識到〝豆腐渣〞建築物是奪去眾多孩子性命的罪魁禍首，他不顧當局強大的阻力開始調查，在地震壹周年的日子，他公布了5 385名地震中遇難孩子的名單。5.39.217.76' e( \# k) ~+ m* ]

記錄片《艾未未：永不認錯》(Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry)，1月25號在美國猶他州〝聖丹斯電影節〞上舉行了首映，並於28號在〝世界記錄片〞競賽環節中贏得了評委特別獎。
艾未未的攝影與攝像展，本月底將在巴黎的網球場博物館開展。
《法國國際廣播電臺》表示，中國政府在艾未未事件上越來越進退兩難、不知所措。給他自由將對政權構成巨大的威脅，將他關起來，只會使他的支持者們日益增多。
