艾未未壹直是中共當局認可的藝術家。但08年汶川大地震後，艾未未到災區現場，意識到〝豆腐渣〞建築物是奪去眾多孩子性命的罪魁禍首，他不顧當局強大的阻力開始調查，在地震壹周年的日子，他公布了5 385名地震中遇難孩子的名單。
