You seems so upset with US military presence in Australia. When I read the part "I would not be an American now for anything, not even for a grey-shingled mansion in the Hamptons and a guaranteed week in bed with Diane Keaton.", I can't help looking at the date of the article. Though the voice is weak, there are still reflection on this problem. There is a documentary beginning with this stark warning called "Why We Fight".
