1/2 cup raw diced bacon
0 x8 F: T; |+ u- ?5.39.217.761/2 tsp finely chopped garlic
- P4 f4 M% T! |) n- B8 Y1/2 tsp finely chopped fresh thyme

salt & pepper to taste

8 D& l6 x+ v0 i! p2 z7 E: q' Y/ X& @In large pot, sauté bacon, onion, and celery in 1 Tbs butter (do not brown bacon).  Add garlic, thyme, bay leaves, clams, and clam juice.  Bring to a boil.  
% U* V# `4 D+ g" ^0 E1 h  B5.39.217.76; J7 C6 r1 }" z7 p+ \/ z9 w2 M9 w* p
Melt 1 cup butter in medium skillet.  Add flour and cook for 5 minutes.  Add butter/flour mixture to boiling clam mixture, stirring constantly until thickened.  Add cooked potato, heavy cream, salt, and pepper.
