How comes so many ABC don't understand what it is to be Chinese?

Most ABC think they characterize Chinese by have Chinese food. Unfortunately, they can't even know how to order food in Chinese language. I hope they can study more chinese culture to keep the root for the future generation.作者: jjxia 時間: 2011-3-23 10:58 PM

It all depends on the parents. Some will send their kids to Chinese school, speaking to them in Chinese and visit Asia often but some don't. My sister's kid are ABc but they understand and speak Cantonese and Mandarin. They can even read some simple stuff like restaurant menu and such.作者: animefans 時間: 2011-5-12 05:16 PM

If they're in the bay area or NY, they will expose to chinese culture more,
but if is in small town then all they will contact is the white or black in most case

I think that's really how their families raise them. Some parents of the ABC children tend to believe that ABCs are western and let it be in that way. Since most of those parents are busy working everything, they have no time to really teach them about Chinese cultures and the only thing they did is to go for dim sum every Sunday when they are off. I think the culture in the States is trying to melt you into their culture, one single stereo typing, and they are so emphasis their American Spirit.
