Whenever there is a major policy blunder that may be detrimental to the party's survival, the scapegoat is often the party leader. This is the rule of the game in politics. Suddenly some would emerge within the party proclaiming that they have a different view and the hotly contentious issues are subject to amend. All the "wrongs" are to be forgotten alongside with the deposed leader. One thing I find Ms. Gillard appealing is her "working-class" accent, which may give the impression that she is approachable.
