This episode actually erodes the credibility of BP which is already in a shattered state. Obama feels the boiling political pressure on his government to do something, no matter how symbolic the gesture would be. He would try to stop BP from paying the dividends which is due next month. However this move causes political disturbance in UK as some labor MPs decide to motion support for BP against a milieu of anti-British sentiment in the US. Prime Minister Cameron would have to tread very carefully as his is a minority government. With no end in sight to stop the spill completely, the fiscal health of BP would be under strict scrutiny in view of the payment for the damages and compensation that may take years to finish.
