WAYNE ROONEY has urged Sir Alex Ferguson not to rest him for the Carling Cup final on Sunday.

The trophy is third on Ferguson’s priority list, behind the Champions League and Premier League.
And the United boss wants his top scorer fresh for those main events. But Rooney wants to enjoy a Wembley final – especially as he missed out last season when United beat Tottenham in a shoot-out.
“This is why you join a club like Manchester United, to win trophies and play in cup finals,” said Rooney. “Playing at Wembley is still a great feeling. Hopefully, I’ll play Sunday and we can win the trophy.”
The 4-0 Carling crushing of Wigan in 2006, when two-goal Rooney was man of the match, remains his only domestic cup medal.
He has started the last 17 United matches and is likely to figure for England against Egypt on Wednesday.
“I’m aware of people’s fears, but, as long as I keep playing and doing well, I’m sure I’ll be OK,” he added.
Nemanja Vidic also hopes to start the final. |
