i am using 945 integrated video and i am fine with HD video

What format/files type/extension of your "HD video" and what cable/ interface you connect your display to CPU?
The only desktop integrated video from intel support HD is the latest chipset: The Intel® G45 Express Chipset, with Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD (Intel® GMA X4500HD), includes built-in support for full 1080p high-definition video playback, including Blu-ray disc movies.
For x.264 720p if you have P4 2.6GHz or faster, 1080p Core2Due 2GHz or faster. Unless high bitrate encoded video and DTS audio then you will need slightly faster CPU. All video can be play with software decoding using CPU, don't need video card(hardware decoding).
Try different codec coreAVC or ffshow in MPC or VLC player(have build in codec).
