據曾經傳出的分析，今次MH370的通訊系統，可能在失去聯絡之時已被關閉，而且飛機亦可能取道雷達未能偵測得到的航道，避過雷達監測。問題卻在於，GPS開放民用已經多時，只要在地球表面上任何一點都能夠自動定位，而且飛機亦可透過通訊衛星傳送其位置資訊，何以這個系統沒法發揮作用？

事實上，以現今科技，即使是一部智能手機、一輛巴士，只要能夠接收得到GPS（或電訊公司發射站）的訊號，訊號又沒有地形或建築物阻擋接收，而系統本身又沒有被關閉，就已經可以計算得出大概位置。不少行山失蹤市民都是以這種辦法被尋獲，而巴士公司亦有利用GPS系統得知巴士的大概位置。( K' k& z/ q, T* n4 ], N
