Huge number of flora and fauna on Socotra are endemic, i.e., they are found nowhere else on Earth: 37% of Socotra’s 825 plant species, 90% of its reptile species and 95% of its land snail species. The tree can live to 5000 or 6000 years old. Its red sap was thought to be the dragon’s blood of the ancients, sought after as a medicine and a dye, also inscribe as magical seals and talismans. Another famous plant species is Desert Rose (Adenium Obesum) which blooming in spring with a flush of pink flowers, they apparently do not require soil, always magically growing from cliffs and rock-faces, sinking their roots straight into bare rock.
