' Q8 {8 I- `9 Ktvb now,tvbnow,bttvbEnglish translation of the original 5.39.217.76  g6 y  S1 x: f# v
The original song was written in 1933 by two Hungarians, Rezso Seress (music)
  _9 G% \, l  h# R) F5.39.217.76and Laszlo Javor (lyrics), and consisted of the first two stanza 9 i( U& ]% t" h' ?, g$ U: w; R
only -- the last stanza was added later, also first in Hungarian, / ]  _4 h4 `# s5 |8 q
as Zoe Orosz from Hungary pointed out to me.
! G/ G- h0 S6 L* O  wtvb now,tvbnow,bttvbZoe added: 1 K! V8 }5 A% M. {) _# k
Actually, the second part of the song in Hungarian is not so reassuring at all.
1 u* w) [( Z0 f1 m/ U0 rIt is if at all possible, much gloomier than the first two stanzas, almost apocalyptic.
5 K% D# K8 x6 hIt looks like the pessimism of the song was too much for the translators and they made their translation a happier one. 5.39.217.76* n- x6 s. `  @6 Y5 Z7 y
In that case one might argue that the translator has done a bad job . U, i9 R5 |& k! ^
and 'ruined' the song, or in other words: a translator has to maintain the original spirit
# f0 A. Z# ~3 Q7 l5.39.217.76and intentions of the song. On the other hand, 公仔箱論壇* ?6 ~/ M& j( r) |0 N
a translator may also be more than just a translator and based on the original create a new song.
+ G# J1 P* B) l! Z' N: ytvb now,tvbnow,bttvbPerhaps the Sam Lewis mentioned in the credits is responsible for this. 9 `' ~4 J* k! F* Q/ P
5.39.217.76; B; t& K' A5 @/ J( A) T& T
Zoe Orosz also made a translation into English of the original Hungarian song, adding:
8 F* b0 h7 K/ g# u. a* x# b! e  L5.39.217.76It looks like Javor wrote the first part and Seress the second. It is very-very gloomy. TVBNOW 含有熱門話題,最新最快電視,軟體,遊戲,電影,動漫及日常生活及興趣交流等資訊。& x0 {* a# U, B
It seems to refer to the horrors of a war at the end. 5.39.217.763 g1 `* q" D% P" A( X1 ?
I'm glad that there's an English version that makes it less terrible. To be honest,
# V5 [0 p( g$ L( |5.39.217.76I don't think it was ruined at all. We are a very pessimistic people, * u' Q, G* d, k7 u6 L
so maybe it was good after all that it was not made popular in its original form.
5 }1 {; k7 K& stvb now,tvbnow,bttvb5.39.217.765 G; i1 O- @- z
The war Zoe mentions could be the First World War, as the song originates from the 1930s. 公仔箱論壇2 V3 q$ n& S$ P: v0 V7 ~! X, C
But since the second part of the song is even more gloomy than the first part, 公仔箱論壇" o7 d) H( u" s# z
the second part may have been added after the Second World War.

, q. W3 i+ {# |公仔箱論壇Someone said that:
: v, T% g* f+ C: P8 a1 u  [tvb now, tvbnow, bttvbI like this song very much! It is a little jazzy, and Sarah's singing and the music create the right mood for the song.
- Q" d4 }6 l7 S3 h! X. n' i4 z5.39.217.76One thing is very strange, though. The mood changes between the second and the third stanza,
$ q' L6 K2 `( k3 tTVBNOW 含有熱門話題,最新最快電視,軟體,遊戲,電影,動漫及日常生活及興趣交流等資訊。because she wakes up and realises that the gloomy first two stanzas were nothing but a dream and the third stanza is then more chearful. tvb now,tvbnow,bttvb; l" P- B" A! C1 k- V" v
This change of mood is strangely rather abrupt:
# x9 B% k6 u2 ~; I% ]5.39.217.76the pause is less than a second -- Sarah has barely enough time to catch her breath. 5.39.217.76. f$ Z6 k9 O$ K! R
I would have expected the change in mood between stanzas two and three to be build up a little more gradually, / k7 W+ S; j7 p# D
in five to ten seconds or so. After all, waking up and realising that it was a dream takes time.
' b* c8 I! t  C: m' Q# m公仔箱論壇Hazan suggested that the last stanza could still be part of the dream: the singer has lost her lover,
! b7 [1 j! |, |- @0 F3 |- j5 U: Wtvb now,tvbnow,bttvbcontinues her mourning in her dream, and as a reaction to the pain wishes it was all but a dream:
/ g  ~, W# O! h+ a4 M$ U3 y" E"I find you asleep in the deep of my heart", not next to her in bed.
  O. o) t" T1 I: l* MI do not think this is what is meant here. The change of mood, the use of the words
2 Y8 ^! {. k0 Z/ S) Z! I- Itvb now,tvbnow,bttvb"I was only dreaming / I wake" and also the lines "I hope /   m& s1 `8 F8 A5 h
