Hong Kong people, before 1990s, only think Chinese is Cantonese.tvb now,tvbnow,bttvb; m" b3 B' ?( t q+ s
It was wrong but we only think and talk that way.
前面松哥老婆差点被车撞那一幕,他说请以华文(华语)和我老婆道歉。而因该是 Mandarin 而 不是 Chinese,因为 Chinese 指的是华人,华族。反而 Mandarin 指的是华文(华语)。 ...公仔箱論壇1 L) i. | Z/ b

What's wrong with the word "Chinese"? The word "Chinese" has multiple implications, just like any other words like "English" , "German" and "French"~~~ When you are in a place where majority of the public speaks Cantonese (which is a local dialect of Chinese), asking a person to "Speak Chinese" means you want that person to speak in that local dialect, i.e. Cantonese in this case! ; v% B M) G* z. c8 I

I think your interpretation of "Chinese" being just a human race is far too superficial ~~~1 H7 L8 H* w' @) C, s0 F
