這座位於法國南部的瑪爾庫勒(Marcoule)核電廠，位於法國的加爾地區(Gard region)，靠近法國地中海沿岸。根據了解發生爆炸起火地點是在核廢料的倉庫，並無波及到核子反應爐，儘管法國當局出面表示這起爆炸案並無任何核能外洩的疑慮，但日本福島核電廠的前車之鑑還歷歷在目，法國政府表示不會掉以輕心，雖然一再澄清並無外洩疑慮，但當地媒體卻警告仍會有外洩的風險。
