The show begins in the year 2149, a time when all life on planet Earth is threatened with extinction (suggested in trailers to be due to dwindling worldwide air quality and overpopulation). In an effort to save the human race, scientists develop a time machine allowing people to travel 85 million years back in time to prehistoric Earth. The Shannon family (father Jim, his wife Elisabeth, and their three children Josh, Maddy and Zoe) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the other side of the temporal doorway. However, they are unaware that the colony is in the middle of a group of carnivorous dinosaurs.

Taylor was the first man through the portal, the first human to set foot in the Cretaceous. As Terra Nova’s unquestioned leader, he believes that the colony is humanity’s last, best hope. He’s fiercely protective of their new home and there’s no telling what lengths he’ll go to in order to defend it.

The Shannon family’s brilliant and endearingly awkward oldest daughter is enthralled with everything Terra Nova has to offer – the scientific community, the fantastical flora and fauna, and perhaps most intriguingly, a young soldier named Mark Reynolds.

Skye came to Terra Nova as a kid and barely remembers the dystopic future they hail from. But coming to paradise had a huge price. Both of her parents were struck down by Syncillic fever. With Taylor’s guidance, she’s been able to navigate the world of Terra Nova and become one of its most surefooted and fearless inhabitants.
