The words “Camaro” and “LSD” (ok, this is not actually a word) certainly belong together.
But we have to mention that this is only true when the “LSD” term refers to a limited slip differential, a device that allows the pony/muscle car to put its power to the road in a more efficient way. With the help of such a device, the American icon can offer an improved 0 to 62mph (100 km/h) sprint time and, more importantly, enhance handling that allows the driver to tackle the bends with more confidence.
However, it looks like some people see things a little bit differently. In their view, the two words are married, but with “LSD” standing for “Lambo Style Doors”. The new feature comes with a Guided Roller System (GRS+), that allows adjustments, adding safety and precision for the opening/closing operations.
The GRS+ is a three dimensional adjustment system that can be fitted to the original doors of the car (no modification is required for the doors). The system is showcased on the top of the range Camaro, the SS.
For those worried that the new system might be a hazard in the unfortunate case of the Camaro meeting another vehicle or an obstacle and failing to avoid it, we can tell you that the LSD doors have managed to receive a safety rating similar to that of the production doors during side crash tests.
The LSD Chevrolet Camaro doors retail for a price of EUR1,599 ($2,011) and come with a German TUV certificate that confirms all the security standards are met. |
