The amount of depth from the young players make this the best squad inthe world IMO, 17 and 18 year olds who can slot right into the firstteam and do a wonderful job.
The only problem area(s) for me are goalkeeper, Van Der Sar cannot becounted on anymore to play 2 games a week, which means our defence hasto deal with another goalkeeper playing in his place. Foster has shownpotential and if a dream target like Buffon is impossible to land thenwe should give him a shot and let Edwin phase his career out quietly onthe bench with only the odd appearance.
The other main ones are right back and an another combative centralmidfielder. For right back, Neville is clearly finished, it takes himages to get fit and when he's fit he needs a run of games to gethimself sharp - at the age of 35 it simply isn't worth it anymore.Expect him to be a coach at the club after this season probably. WesBrown is extremely injury plagued himself and cannot be trusted whichjust leaves us with O'Shea and Rafael. O'Shea for me should simplyremain a back up/utility player for when things get desperate He's beengood at times this season but he's always got 2 or 3 **** up in hisgame and questionable concentration levels for a 28 year old. Rafaelwill clearly become one of the best right backs in the world but isstill only 18, which is why we could do with a senior Rb that'sactually dependable and fit. Someone like Srna would be worth a go.
As for that combative CM we're crying out for with Hargreaves NEVERfit, Daniele De Rossi seems to be a player who might be allowed out ofRoma with Inter seemingly sniffing around....but they'd strongly notwant to sell him there nor would he want to go there after some of thestuff he's said about them. If Sir Alex thinks he could do with anotherbody in there, which we clearly do seeing as OH is never fit then DDRis perfect. We really missed out big time on Lassana Diarra andPalacios. People were surprised we were after another midfielder - Iwasn't.
Apart from GK and CM, its fair to say further strenghtening is nottruly essential. We could do with a right back but it would beunderstandable if money was used elsewhere.
Tevez isn't being signed and i'd rather use that money towardsimproving the other positions that I mentioned. We're fine upfrontreally, expect Manucho to leave aswell. Rooney, Berbatov, Macheda,Welbeck and Campbell is more than enough. |
