At least nine climbers were killed today and another six were reported missing after they were hit by an avalanche on the world's eighth-highest mountain.

Rescue pilots had spotted seven other bodies on the mountain's slopes, he added.

Tenother members of the team survived the avalanche but many were injured and were being flown to hospitals by rescue helicopters, he said.
