Mr Yam caused something of a flurry by suggesting that Hong Kong might look into changing the US dollar peg, which fixes the Hong Kong dollar against its US counterpart at a rate of HK$7.80.One alternative is for the Hong Kong dollar to be pegged to a basket of currencies. That’s led to a shortage of school places in what’s defined as the North District. Local parents are angry that their children are losing out.
