湖本生態村沿著蜿蜒秀麗的大埔溪而建，外圍青山環繞依山傍水，山明水秀，給人的感覺是寧靜優雅，再經由解說及多次來訪後便更可感受它的美，也感動社區居民對環保及生態維護的堅持，為保護八色鳥生態讓這個小山村聞名國際，愛鳥人士譽為八色鳥的故鄉。社區居民大部分以務農為業，主要作物有麻竹筍、柳丁、茶葉……等。. i$ l1 V$ m  q
